Government Prevents Illegal Goods Smuggling Worth IDR 3.7 Trillion in First 100 Days of Prabowo's Administration

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Budi Gunawan, announced that the government has successfully thwarted the smuggling of illegal goods valued at IDR 3.7 trillion during the first 100 days of President Prabowo Subianto's administration. This effort is part of the government's ongoing initiative to strengthen the competitiveness of local products against the influx of foreign goods.

"This achievement is the result of hard work and collaboration from all parties involved, including law enforcement officials and the public who actively reported suspicious activities," said Budi Gunawan in a press release received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday.

Commonly known as BG, the Minister explained that the efforts were coordinated through the Desk for Prevention and Eradication of Smuggling, which was formed by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs. The Desk consists of several agencies, including the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance, Bakamla, the Indonesian National Police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), the Ministry of Industry, and the Indonesian Quarantine Agency.

The items seized in this operation included illegal cigarettes, electronic goods, cosmetics, lobster seeds, alcoholic beverages, and other commodities.

In addition to securing these goods, the government arrested 552 individuals connected to international smuggling syndicates. BG expressed hope that these preventive actions would reduce the circulation of illegal goods in Indonesia, thereby fostering a healthier domestic industry.

He also urged the public to continue supporting government efforts in preventing the entry of illegal goods into the country. "The government will continue to strengthen surveillance and enforcement to ensure that there are no loopholes for smugglers," BG added.
