DIGIVESTASI - Indonesia Targets End to Diesel Fuel Imports by 2026 with Expanded Biodiesel Program, Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, is optimistic that the country can eliminate its reliance on imported diesel fuel, particularly for solar-type diesel. This goal is supported by government policies promoting increased biodiesel use, targeting a 50% blend (B50) by 2026.
Bahlil announced that the implementation of B40 biodiesel began on January 1, 2025. Preparations are underway to advance to B50 by 2026, a move aimed at reducing diesel consumption and bolstering national energy resilience.
“The rollout of B40 starts in 2025, while we prepare for the transition to B50 in 2026. With this initiative, we expect to completely halt diesel imports by 2026. This aligns with the President’s directive on energy security,” Bahlil stated at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (January 3, 2024).
As part of the B40 implementation, the 2025 biodiesel quota has been set at 15.6 million kiloliters (KL), a 20% increase from the 12.98 million KL utilized under the B35 program in 2024.
“B35 reached approximately 12.98 million KL, and now it's increasing to 15.6 million KL with the implementation of B40,” he explained.
Bahlil also emphasized efforts to improve water content levels in biodiesel blends, a crucial factor for the program’s success.
“We are working on measures to ensure water content is addressed. Currently, it stands at 320, but steps are being taken, including upgrading the specifications of transport vessels, to minimize water levels,” he said.
