DIGIVESTASI - Three giants technology , OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle, have officially announced the establishment of a new company named Stargate, aimed at developing artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in the United States. This announcement was delivered by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, and Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison at the White House on Tuesday (January 21, 2023), accompanied by President Donald Trump. The project is described as "the largest AI infrastructure project in history."

The three companies plan to make an initial investment of USD 100 billion (approximately IDR 1,621 trillion) in the project, with a target investment of up to USD 500 billion (approximately IDR 8,117 trillion) in the coming years.

"This project is projected to create 100,000 jobs in the United States," stated President Trump in his remarks, as reported by CNN International on Wednesday (January 22, 2025). Trump added that Stargate would build both physical and virtual infrastructure to support the next generation of AI, including the construction of data centers in various regions across the U.S.

Larry Ellison revealed that Stargate's first data center project, spanning one million square feet, has already begun construction in Texas.

This massive project also highlights concerns previously raised by AI leaders, such as the need for additional data centers, advanced chips, as well as electricity and water resources to support AI operations.

"I believe this will be the most important project of this era. We could not make this happen without your support, Mr. President," said Sam Altman.

Oracle, as one of the largest data center operators in the United States, along with SoftBank, which has significant financial resources, will serve as the backbone of this project. Expanding AI infrastructure is expected to require billions of dollars in funding to achieve its goals.
