According to the February 2026 National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) conducted by Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the average monthly wage of workers, employees, and staff in Indonesia reached Rp3.29 million. This figure remains below Jakarta’s 2026 Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP), which stands at Rp5.72 million. However, wage levels vary depending on gender and employment sector.
In the Indonesian Employment Situation report cited on Wednesday (May 6, 2026), BPS stated that the average monthly wage for workers and employees in February 2026 was recorded at Rp3.29 million.
When viewed by business sector, employees working in Financial and Insurance Activities earned the highest average wage at Rp5.05 million per month. Meanwhile, workers in the Arts, Other Service Activities, Household Activities, and International Organization Activities sectors received the lowest average wage at around Rp2 million.
Based on gender, male workers earned an average wage of Rp3.55 million, higher than female workers whose average income stood at Rp2.80 million. Nevertheless, there were five sectors where female employees earned higher wages than males, namely Financial and Insurance Activities at Rp5.13 million compared to Rp5 million; Mining and Quarrying at Rp5.67 million compared to Rp4.91 million; Transportation and Storage at Rp4.06 million compared to Rp3.97 million; Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities as well as Administrative and Support Service Activities at Rp4 million compared to Rp3.96 million; and Construction at Rp4.82 million compared to Rp3.31 million.
The highest wage among male workers was recorded in the Publishing and Telecommunications sector at Rp5.37 million. Meanwhile, female workers earned the highest average salary in the Mining and Quarrying sector, reaching Rp5.67 million.
BPS also noted that higher educational attainment is associated with higher wages. Workers holding Diploma IV, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees earned the highest average wage of Rp4.77 million, while workers with elementary school education or lower received the lowest average wage at Rp2.23 million.
As a result, workers with Diploma IV, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral education levels earned around 2.1 times more than workers with elementary education or below. In addition, across every educational level, male workers consistently earned higher average wages than female workers.
