DIGIVESTASI - US Government Offers Financial Incentives for 2 Million Federal Employees to Retire Early, The United States government under President Donald Trump is offering financial incentives to 2 million full-time federal employees to voluntarily resign. This move is part of a drastic plan to streamline the US government.

According to USNews.com on Wednesday (January 29, 2025), the resignation program will allow federal employees to continue receiving their salaries until September 30, but without direct work duties. Their tasks may be reduced or temporarily eliminated, as indicated in an email sent to federal employees and seen by Reuters.

The email gives federal employees until February 6 to decide whether to participate. Employees interested in the program are instructed to reply to the government account email with the word “resign.”

This offer applies to civilian employees, except those in immigration, national security positions, or those working for the US Postal Service.

This unprecedented move comes as President Trump has used the early days of his administration to streamline, clean up, and rebuild the federal government to align with his political priorities.

There are approximately 2.3 million civilian employees in the US, excluding the postal service. Security-related agencies make up the largest portion of the federal workforce, but hundreds of thousands of people work across the country in various roles, including overseeing veterans' healthcare, inspecting agriculture, and managing government bills.

Currently, the percentage of federal employees relative to the total nonfarm workforce in the US has dropped to under 2 percent over the past few decades.
