Government Thwarts Smuggling of Illegal Goods Worth IDR 3.7 Trillion in First 100 Days of Prabowo's Presidency

Budi Gunawan, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, revealed that the government has successfully halted the smuggling of illegal goods worth IDR 3.7 trillion during the first 100 days of President Prabowo Subianto's administration. This effort is part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of domestic products in the face of foreign imports.

"This achievement is the result of the hard work and collaboration of all parties involved, including law enforcement agencies and the public, who played an active role in reporting suspicious activities," Gunawan said in a press statement received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday.

Known as BG, the Minister explained that the actions were carried out through the Desk for Prevention and Eradication of Smuggling, established by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs. The Desk includes several agencies, such as the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance, Bakamla, the Indonesian National Police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), the Ministry of Industry, and the Indonesian Quarantine Agency.

The items seized in the operation included illegal cigarettes, electronics, cosmetics, lobster seeds, alcoholic beverages, and other commodities.

In addition to securing these goods, the government arrested 552 individuals involved in international smuggling syndicates. BG expressed his hope that these efforts would reduce the circulation of illegal goods in Indonesia, contributing to a healthier domestic industry.

He also called on the public to continue supporting the government's efforts to prevent the entry of illegal goods into the country. "The government will continue to enhance surveillance and enforcement to ensure there are no gaps for smugglers," BG concluded.
