A shocking proposal has come from U.S. President Donald Trump, who announced plans for the United States to take over Gaza. Speaking from the White House alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump unveiled his plan, though details remain scarce.
The announcement has drawn global criticism, with many governments strongly opposing the idea.
During a press conference on Tuesday (Feb 4, 2025), Trump stated that the U.S. would control Gaza long-term, taking responsibility for removing unexploded bombs and dangerous weapons.
"We will own it and ensure all hazardous explosives and weapons are removed," Trump declared.
He further explained that the U.S. would level destroyed buildings and rebuild Gaza, aiming to boost the economy and create jobs.
"Flatten it, clear the rubble, and create an economic boom that will provide jobs and housing," he added.
Trump argued that this plan could bring long-term stability to the Middle East.
Trump suggested that Palestinians in Gaza could be relocated, stating that the reconstruction was not meant for its current residents.
"It cannot be rebuilt and repopulated by the same people who have lived, fought, and died there," Trump stated.
He argued that Palestinians only want to return to Gaza because they have no alternatives, and proposed turning Gaza into an international hub.
"I envision people from around the world living there. It could be an incredible international place," he remarked.
Trump hinted at deploying American troops in Gaza if necessary.
"Regarding Gaza, we will do whatever is required. If needed, we will intervene," he affirmed.
Trump wants to transform Gaza into an economic hub, calling it the “Middle East Riviera.”
"We will develop the area, create thousands of jobs, and make it a source of pride for the Middle East," he claimed.
Trump claimed that Arab leaders support his plan, though the Arab League strongly opposed it after his announcement.
"I’ve spoken to Middle Eastern leaders, and they love the idea. They say it will bring stability," Trump asserted.
However, critics condemned the plan as a form of "ethnic cleansing."
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly rejected Trump’s proposal, calling it a violation of Palestinian sovereignty.
"Indonesia firmly opposes any forced relocation of Palestinians or demographic changes in occupied territories," the statement read.
Indonesia urged the international community to uphold Palestinians' rights to self-determination and called for an end to Israel’s illegal occupation.
