DIGIVESTASI - IMF Projects Stable Global Economic Growth, Controlled Inflation in 2025
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts that global economic growth will remain stable with continued disinflation in 2025. This projection will be announced in the IMF's World Economic Outlook report on January 17, 2025.
According to Channel News Asia, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva stated that the U.S. economy is performing slightly better than expected, although uncertainty regarding the trade policies of elected President Donald Trump remains a hurdle for the global economy, pushing long-term interest rates higher.
With inflation nearing the target set by the U.S. Federal Reserve and data showing labor market stability, Georgieva believes the Fed may wait for further data before deciding on additional interest rate cuts. "Overall, interest rates are expected to remain somewhat higher for some time," Georgieva said.
Previously, in October 2024, the IMF projected global economic growth would stagnate at 3.2 percent in 2025. For advanced economies, growth is expected to be at 1.8 percent, while emerging markets are projected to grow by 4.2 percent in 2025.
The IMF also projects Indonesia's economic growth to reach 5.1 percent this year. In a post on the official Instagram account @the_imf on December 29, 2024, the IMF highlighted Indonesia's success in economic transformation over the past two decades.
The IMF noted that Indonesia has successfully quadrupled its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and reduced poverty levels tenfold over the past two decades.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, responded to the post by stating that Indonesia's success in maintaining strong economic fundamentals shows that the country remains an attractive investment destination for the world.
