Beijing Strongly Criticizes Additional Tariff Policy Imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Chinese Imports

In an official statement released on Sunday (February 2, 2025), China’s Ministry of Commerce expressed its dissatisfaction with Washington’s actions and affirmed that it would take countermeasures to protect the country's economic interests.

"We are deeply dissatisfied with this decision and firmly oppose it," stated the Ministry of Commerce, as quoted by VOA Indonesia on Sunday (February 11).

A day earlier, Trump announced the imposition of an additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports, on top of the existing duties. This policy is part of the United States' strategy in dealing with its key trading partner.

In response, China plans to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO), arguing that the unilateral tariff policy implemented by the U.S. constitutes a serious violation of international trade rules. Beijing also emphasized that the policy would not resolve the U.S. economic issues but instead worsen trade relations between the two nations.

In a separate statement, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserted that trade wars and tariff policies would benefit no one.

"The imposition of additional tariffs is not a constructive move. This policy not only harms trade but also has the potential to undermine bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including efforts to combat drug trafficking," said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as quoted by Liputan6.com.
