Currently, there are over 3,000 billionaires worldwide, and they are wealthier than ever, collectively holding $16.1 trillion in assets—equivalent to IDR 261 quadrillion (based on an exchange rate of IDR 16,235 per USD). However, this tremendous accumulation of wealth is far from evenly distributed across the globe.
According to Forbes, just three countries account for more than 50% of all billionaires (and their total wealth), while 17 other nations each have only a single individual in the billionaire ranks.
Almost one-third of this year’s billionaire list comes from the United States, which continues to dominate as the country with the highest number of billionaires. A total of 902 American billionaires made the list, up from 813 last year, amassing a combined fortune of $6.8 trillion or approximately IDR 110 quadrillion—a new record.
Among the 15 richest people in the world, only two are not U.S. citizens. Elon Musk remains the wealthiest person on Earth with a net worth of $407.8 billion, equivalent to IDR 6,620 trillion, reclaiming the top spot from Bernard Arnault, the French CEO of LVMH.
In second place is China, the Asian powerhouse, with 450 billionaires whose combined wealth amounts to $1.7 trillion, or around IDR 27.59 quadrillion.
Despite U.S. government efforts to force the sale of TikTok to domestic owners, Zhang Yiming—the founder of ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company—became China’s richest person in March. This happened after ByteDance executed a stock buyback valued at $312 billion, increasing Zhang’s net worth to roughly $65.5 billion or about IDR 1,055 trillion.
India, the most populous country in the world, ranks third with 205 billionaires, up from 200 last year, holding a total net worth of $941 billion or around IDR 15.27 quadrillion.
However, this represents a slight decline from the previous year due to a significant drop in wealth—over $20 billion or IDR 324 trillion—for India’s two wealthiest individuals, Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, following sharp declines in the stock values of their conglomerates.
