Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto concluded his official visit to the Netherlands and departed from Amsterdam on Friday (Sept 26, 2025).
During the trip, Prabowo secured a significant agreement for the repatriation of 30,000 historical Indonesian artifacts that had long been kept in the Netherlands.
According to the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo’s departure was officiated by Gabriella Sancisi, Director of Protocol and Host Country Department of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with Lieutenant Colonel Tienka Campenhout, Aide-de-Camp to the King, at Amsterdam Airport.
Also present at the farewell ceremony were Mayerfas, Indonesian Ambassador to the Netherlands, and Colonel Rikrik Permadi Sobana, Defense Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in The Hague.
The departure ceremony was solemn, highlighted by military honors. Two honor guards stood at the foot of the aircraft stairs, while nine others lined the red carpet to salute the Indonesian Head of State.
With this dignified farewell, Prabowo left Amsterdam after completing important agendas that further strengthened cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands in multiple areas.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that Prabowo had the privilege of being welcomed directly by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima.
On this occasion, Prabowo engaged in discussions on several key issues, including efforts to enhance bilateral relations across strategic sectors.
“Earlier, the President was received by King Willem and Queen Máxima. The King is the head of state and the highest authority in the Netherlands, making this meeting highly valuable for both countries’ relations,” Teddy explained.
He added that the meeting produced an important agreement concerning the return of 30,000 Javanese artifacts, fossils, and cultural documents belonging to Indonesia.
“It was agreed that the Dutch Government would return around 30,000 fossils, artifacts, and cultural documents owned by Indonesia that are currently stored here. The process will start immediately, and tomorrow the Minister of Culture is expected to finalize the matter so that they can soon be returned to Indonesia,” he said.
Teddy further noted that Minister of Culture Fadli Zon will follow up directly on this agreement in the Netherlands.
“Mr. Fadli Zon is already here, and in the coming days he will visit the Leiden Museum. The 30,000 artifacts will be returned to Indonesia promptly. The process should move quickly since the Dutch King has already given his approval. In fact, this repatriation has been under discussion for a long time, but thankfully, it has now been agreed upon and will soon be realized,” Teddy concluded.
