DIGIVESTASI - Muhadjir Effendy: Online Gambling Victims Included in DTKS and Eligible for Social Assistance Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK), Muhadjir Effendy, revealed that online gambling victims will be included in the Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS). With the inclusion in the data, they are entitled to receive social assistance (bansos) from the government.

"Many have become new poor due to online gambling, and this is our responsibility at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture. We have done a lot of advocacy for victims of online gambling, one of which is by including them in the DTKS as recipients of social assistance," said Muhadjir at the Presidential Palace, Thursday (13/6/2024).

Muhadjir refused to link the rise of online gambling with social inequality. According to him, although some are trying to get rich through criminal means, social inequality cannot be seen from case to case. "If our Gini ratio goes down, we cannot see the gap case by case. If the aggregate goes down, then the level of inequality also goes down," he explained.

In addition to the distribution of social assistance, the Coordinating Ministry for PMK also coordinates with the Ministry of Social Affairs to provide assistance and treatment to victims of online gambling who experience mental disorders. "Those who experience psychosocial disorders will be fostered and maintained by the Ministry of Social Affairs," Muhadjir added.

Although he acknowledged that many online gambling victims suffer from mental disorders, Muhadjir refused to link it to the case of a police officer being burned by his wife due to online gambling. He is waiting for the results of the investigation from the police before giving conclusions. "It could be one of the factors, but we are not speculating. The case of the policewoman who burned her husband was not linear, many factors were involved," Muhadjir said.

Previously, President Joko Widodo emphasized that the government is serious about fighting online gambling. To date, more than 2.1 million online gambling sites have been closed and an Online Gambling Eradication Task Force will soon be formed. "The government is serious about eradicating online gambling. To date, more than 2.1 million online gambling sites have been closed and the Online Gambling Task Force will soon be formed to accelerate the eradication of online gambling," Mr Widodo was quoted as saying by Antara, Thursday (13/6/2024).
