DIGIVESTASI - Elon Musk Prepares to Launch 'Robotaxi' Ride-Hailing Service. Elon Musk is shifting his focus to a ride-hailing service named 'Robotaxi,' similar to Gojek and Grab, which will be launched soon. This move comes amid declining Tesla electric car sales, leading to a drop in stock prices and a global layoff of 10% of the workforce.

Information about Robotaxi was first revealed by a Tesla employee who shared a teaser of the service on their personal LinkedIn account. Rosalie Nathans, Senior Manager for Used Cars and Online Sales at Tesla, posted a video showcasing the experience of using this new ride-hailing service with the caption 'coming soon.'

"Still can't believe I got to demo Tesla's ride-hailing platform," Nathans said, quoted by Business Insider on Monday (June 24, 2024).

In the video, Nathans is seen ordering an online transportation service by pressing a button on an app. Within seconds, the app displays a digital map with a car three minutes away from the pickup location. The app also shows the vehicle's capacity and interior temperature. Nathans even adjusts the air conditioning before entering the vehicle.

When the car arrives, the video shows the phone screen with the travel route and estimated arrival time at the destination. The app also allows passengers to customize their in-car experience, such as setting the temperature, adjusting audio volume, and selecting songs to play. No human driver is shown in the video, indicating that the service is completely driverless.

Nathans did not provide further comments on Robotaxi.

Previously, Elon Musk had expressed his ambition to introduce an autonomous car service that allows Tesla owners to earn extra income. According to Musk, Tesla owners could rent out their cars and generate up to US$30,000 per year.
