Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump caused significant turbulence in the stock markets, and the Indonesian Composite Index (IHSG) was not spared.
On March 24, 2024, about a month ago, the IHSG plunged below the 6,000 level, falling over 4% at the start of the trading session. Heavy pressure came from Trump's proposed tariffs and fears of stagflation in the U.S. economy.
Now, the IHSG has gradually recovered. Over the past week, the IHSG rose 3.74% to 6,678.92, improving from a 2.81% gain the week before. In the past month, the index surged by 7.32%.
This strong performance has been supported largely by big-cap stocks, particularly banks.
Investors who bought banking stocks during the late-March dip have now reaped rewards through capital gains and dividends.
One standout performer is BTN (BBTN), which has surged over 30% in the past month. Thus, an investment of IDR 100 million in BBTN at the end of March 2025 would now yield a profit of more than IDR 30 million.
Besides BBTN, other major banks like BBNI and BMRI have also provided strong returns, especially when factoring in dividends. BBNI rose 12.9% over the past month, and with an additional 8.52% dividend yield, investors saw even greater gains.
BMRI shares climbed 9.8% from their low on March 24, 2025. Thus, an initial IDR 100 million investment has almost reached IDR 110 million, not to mention an extra dividend payout worth IDR 9.28 million.
Meanwhile, BBRI shares have gained 3.6% in the last month, with a dividend yield of 5.74%.
