U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that Meta Platforms Inc. plans to invest US$50 billion, or approximately Rp814.9 trillion (based on an exchange rate of Rp16,298 per U.S. dollar), to build a massive data center in rural Louisiana. Citing Bloomberg on Wednesday (August 27, 2025), Trump disclosed this information during a Cabinet meeting on August 26. He admitted being astonished by the scale of the project currently under construction.

“When they said US$50 billion for a facility, I asked, ‘What kind of facility is that?’” Trump remarked while presenting an illustration from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

The illustration showed the data center superimposed on a map of Manhattan to demonstrate its enormous scale. “Once you see this, you understand why it costs US$50 billion,” he added.

A Meta spokesperson declined to comment on Trump’s statement regarding the data center, named Hyperion. To date, Meta has only publicly stated that the investment in the facility would exceed US$10 billion, or around Rp162.9 trillion.

Trump further noted that U.S. companies are only able to construct such massive data centers because they are permitted to build their own power facilities. Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Meta had appointed Pacific Investment Management Co. (Pimco) and Blue Owl Capital Inc. to lead a US$29 billion (about Rp472.6 trillion) financing package. This represents the largest funding arrangement so far for an artificial intelligence (AI)-based data center project.
