DIGIVESTASI - Djarum Group Reportedly Acquiring 85% Stake in Bakmi GM’s Parent Company for Up to IDR 2.4 Trillion, Djarum Group is reportedly set to acquire an 85% stake in PT Griya Mie Sejati, the parent company of Bakmi GM, with the acquisition value estimated at IDR 2 trillion to IDR 2.4 trillion, according to Dealstreet Asia.

This acquisition plan expands Djarum Group’s business portfolio in Indonesia, adding to its ventures in the food and beverage sector through PT Sumber Kopi Prima, producer of Caffino and Kopi Gadjah, and PT Savoria Kreasi Rasa, which manufactures Yuzu beverages.

The Roots of Djarum Group

Djarum’s business origins lie in the tobacco industry, founded by Oei Wie Gwan in 1951 after purchasing the Djarum cigarette brand and its license. The company’s first product, kretek cigarettes, quickly gained market acceptance. However, a fire destroyed the factory in 1963. Despite this setback, Oei Wie Gwan rebuilt the business before his death later that year.

The business was subsequently taken over by his sons, Michael Bambang Hartono and Robert Budi Hartono. Under their leadership, Djarum grew into one of Indonesia's largest kretek cigarette producers. The company later diversified into various sectors, including textiles, electronics, furniture, finance, banking, and real estate.
