President Prabowo Subianto attended the opening day of the 2025 BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Prabowo expressed his confidence that Indonesia’s participation in BRICS would enhance the country's standing on the global stage.

“President Prabowo is confident that Indonesia’s involvement in BRICS will strengthen its global position. He also emphasized the importance of international cooperation through platforms like BRICS to support global stability and prosperity,” said Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya to reporters on Monday (July 7, 2025).

According to Teddy, Prabowo’s presence at the summit marks a historic moment, as this is Indonesia’s first time taking part as a full member of BRICS. He noted that Indonesia’s entry into the group was the result of a direct initiative by Prabowo during his first year in office as President of the Republic of Indonesia.

“Indonesia’s accession to BRICS was personally initiated by President Prabowo during his first year in office, and it was warmly welcomed by all existing BRICS members. Indonesia was swiftly accepted as the 11th member of the group,” Teddy explained.

Teddy further highlighted that President Prabowo reaffirmed his core principles on international relations during the forum. Prabowo stressed the significance of expanding networks of friendship and strategic cooperation among nations to promote peace and shared prosperity.

“Indonesia’s inclusion in BRICS reflects a principle consistently upheld by the Head of State — that even a thousand friends are too few, while one enemy is already too many,” Teddy concluded.
