Known as Manhattan Nature and located along Xinxiwang Street in Chengdu, the building was constructed between 2000 and 2009 and contains more than 1,300 residential units arranged vertically.

According to Parametric Architecture, Friday (12/12/2025), one of the most striking features of the building is the presence of open-air sections on several floors. These areas are intentionally left without partitions between units, producing an exterior look similar to an exposed dollhouse.

True to its name, Manhattan Nature rises high in the middle of an extremely dense metropolitan area, yet its use of a monolithic façade—a seamless exterior that appears as one continuous surface—helps the building remain environmentally friendly. Natural light and fresh air are able to penetrate deeper into each living space.

Its open architectural style reflects modern, sustainable design principles. Corridors and stairways not only serve as circulation paths but also reduce the crowded feel of a high-density housing complex.

Some units feature rooftop gardens, climbing plants along balconies, and green spaces organized throughout the building. Rather than looking rundown, the complex appears lush due to its blend of geometric structure and natural elements.

The developer, Chengdu Helda Real Estate Development Co., Ltd., explains that the dollhouse-like appearance is intentional. It is the result of a design strategy focused on maximizing lighting, ventilation, and overall aesthetics.

The complex covers approximately 16,667 square meters of land with a plot ratio of 4.0. The building density stands at 35 percent, while green coverage exceeds 30 percent. There are also about 377 parking spaces available for residents.

Manhattan Nature has exploded in popularity on social media. Images and videos showcasing its pastel façade and tiered balconies create a layered, diorama-like visual effect. Parametric Architecture notes that the surreal atmosphere makes people walking through the corridors look like miniature figures in a life-sized set.
