Shell Plc’s subsidiary, PT Shell Indonesia, has officially divested its entire ownership in the gas station (SPBU) business in Indonesia.

Going forward, the management of Shell’s fuel station network will be handled by a new joint venture formed by Sefas Group and its foreign partner, Citadel Pacific Limited.

It’s important to note that the acquisition does not involve Shell’s lubricant business in Indonesia. In the meantime, Shell’s gas station operations will continue running normally until the transition process is completed, which is expected to conclude next year.

“Shell has agreed to transfer ownership of its fuel station business in Indonesia. The Shell brand and quality fuel products will remain available to customers,” said Susi Hutapea, Vice President of Corporate Relations at Shell Indonesia, in an official statement.

Although Shell will no longer directly manage the stations, its brand and products from the UK will continue to be accessible through a licensing agreement.

This licensing model enables the licensee to use the Shell brand under the condition that they comply with Shell’s global operational and quality standards.

So, who owns Sefas Group?

According to the official website, Sefas Group was founded and is owned by Herman Soegeng and Ricky Roesli. The two entrepreneurs launched the company in October 1997.

Herman Soegeng is a well-known business figure with a background in entrepreneurship. He holds a degree in Science in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University, USA, earned in 1992.

His business partner, Ricky Roesli, is the key figure behind the company’s success in expanding into various business sectors, making the group what it is today.

Within the company structure, Ricky Roesli acts as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), while Herman Soegeng holds the position of commissioner or co-owner of Sefas Group.

Currently, Sefas operates more than 20 offices and warehouses spread across Indonesia.

One of Sefas’ major achievements is the founding of PT Cahaya Samoedera Bersaudara (Samoedera) in 2013. Today, Samoedera stands as the world’s largest distributor of Shell Marine lubricants, serving more than 600 ports across 40 countries with 24/7 delivery services.
