President Prabowo Subianto made another visit to disaster-affected areas in Aceh. During this second trip, he issued several new directives, including instructing the Minister of Home Affairs to take action against regional leaders who abandoned their posts during the crisis. According to detikcom on Monday (8 December 2025), Prabowo conducted his visit on Sunday (7 December) in Bireuen Regency, Aceh.

This marks his second inspection of flood-hit regions in the province, following his earlier visit on Monday (1 December). During his latest assessment, he reviewed the construction progress of a bailey bridge in Bireuen, which at the time was only half installed across the river.

After reviewing the flood conditions, Prabowo delivered a series of new instructions. Below are the key points.

1. Orders TNI and Police to Deploy All Resources
Prabowo appointed Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak to lead a special task force assigned to accelerate bridge repairs in disaster-stricken areas across Sumatra. He noted severe damage to dams and farmland caused by flash floods and assured that the government would step in to support repairs. Prabowo also directed the Army Chief to mobilize engineering and territorial units to assist.

He then instructed Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to deploy all available personnel, to which both responded affirmatively.

2. Checks Electricity Restoration Efforts in Aceh
Prabowo asked Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia about the status of power restoration. Bahlil reported that electricity would be restored in 97% of Aceh by that evening. Prabowo welcomed the progress and underscored the government’s commitment to addressing public hardships.

3. Cancels KUR Loans for Disaster-Affected Farmers in Sumatra
Prabowo guaranteed support for all victims in Sumatra and announced that the KUR (small business loan) debts of affected farmers would be written off, considering the situation a force majeure. He assured that food supplies would be redirected from other regions and urged farmers not to worry.

4. Warns Officials Not to Profit from Disaster Situations
During a closed meeting at the Aceh Air Base, Prabowo stressed that no official should exploit the disaster for personal gain. He directed ministers and agency leaders to monitor their subordinates closely and vowed strict sanctions for anyone found manipulating prices or engaging in misconduct.

5. Requests Health Minister to Deploy Internship and Co-assistant Doctors
Prabowo asked Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin to send internship doctors and co-assistants to affected regions. Minister Budi explained that Aceh was experiencing a shortage of medical personnel because some doctors had become victims themselves. He requested assistance from TNI and Police to deploy around 300 doctors. Prabowo further asked whether co-assistant doctors could also be deployed. Budi clarified that internship doctors could be sent, provided they were accompanied by senior physicians.

6. Highlights Issues with Aid Delivery via Helicopter
Prabowo discussed concerns about aid distribution using helicopters, which previously drew criticism. BNPB head Lt. Gen. Suharyanto explained that all isolated regions had received supplies, although delivery remained limited due to reliance on air transport. He confirmed that aid was no longer being thrown out of helicopters and that parachutes were now being used. Prabowo also asked whether sling ropes could be utilized to improve the speed and safety of air-delivered assistance.

7. Orders Home Affairs Minister to Act Against Local Leaders Who “Ran Away”
Prabowo criticized South Aceh Regent Mirwan MS for leaving on an umrah pilgrimage without permission while his region was facing disaster. He instructed the Home Affairs Minister, Tito Karnavian, to take formal action. Prabowo emphasized that leaders must stand with their communities during crises and likened abandoning one’s post to military desertion.
