PPAT to Block Dormant Bank Accounts! Here Are 3 Key Criteria You Should Know

The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) has issued three criteria for identifying inactive bank accounts (dormant) that will be temporarily frozen.

PPATK Head, Ivan Yustiavandana, emphasized that the accounts to be blocked are those that have not been used for any transactions for at least three consecutive months.

“The primary goal is to encourage banks and account holders to re-verify their accounts, ensuring the accounts are legitimate, customer rights and interests are protected, and the accounts are not exploited for illicit activities,” stated PPATK in an official release on Tuesday, July 29.

The first criterion applies to dormant accounts linked to criminal activities, such as accounts obtained through illegal sales, hacking, or other unlawful means.

The second criterion targets accounts designated for receiving social aid (bansos) that have remained unused for over three years.

The third criterion involves government agency accounts and expenditure treasurer accounts that have been classified as dormant, although such accounts are expected to remain active and regularly monitored.

Ivan further explained that dormant accounts are highly vulnerable to misuse, such as being used to store proceeds of crime, traded or sold illegally, hacked, or registered under nominee names. These accounts are also often used in drug transactions, money laundering, or corruption schemes.

“PPATK has urged all banks to immediately verify their customer data. Updating this information is crucial to protect legitimate account holders and to preserve economic stability and the integrity of Indonesia’s financial system,” he asserted.

Despite the temporary freeze, customer funds remain fully intact and secure. Affected account holders may file an objection by completing a form available at bit.ly/FormHensem.
