The Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) of Pati Regency held a Plenary Meeting to discuss the plan to impeach Pati Regent Sudewo. The meeting took place on Wednesday (August 13, 2025), coinciding with a large-scale demonstration by Pati residents protesting the proposed 250% increase in the Rural and Urban Land and Building Tax (PBB P2).
“Is the plenary session to propose the right of inquiry approved?” asked DPRD Chairman Ali Badrudi, who presided over the meeting. The question was met with shouts of agreement from both DPRD members and citizens present at the session.
Nearly all factions in the Pati DPRD expressed support for exercising the right of inquiry. Narson, Chairman of the PKS Faction, gave his approval. “We propose the right of inquiry to overturn Regent Sudewo’s policies. First, regarding the appointment of the hospital director at RSUD. Second, concerning the budget reallocation for 2025,” he stated during the meeting.
Meanwhile, a representative from the Democratic Faction present at the meeting claimed that Sudewo’s decisions had violated his oath of office as Pati Regent. This view was also shared by other factions. “To ensure transparent governance, in line with our commitment to work together with the people for a more progressive Pati,” said a Gerindra Faction representative.
Earlier, on Thursday (August 7, 2025), Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi had urged Regent Sudewo to reconsider the 250% PBB-P2 increase plan. “In principle, policies must not burden the people and should be in line with their financial capacity. Conduct a comprehensive review,” he stated in Purworejo.
Governor Luthfi issued three directives to Sudewo. First, involve a third party to conduct an in-depth review. Second, adjust the PBB-P2 increase to match the people’s economic capacity. Third, ensure that the tax hike does not strain the local economy. He also opened the possibility of revising the plan if it was deemed to burden the public, aiming to prevent public anxiety.
“Carry out proper public outreach so that the policy is well understood. The principle is that any decision taken must not place a burden on the people,” he emphasized.
