Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman reported that the latest data indicate around 11,000 hectares of rice fields in the Sumatra–Aceh region were damaged by flooding and categorized as crop failure. The government assured that these farmlands will be restored through a re-cultivation program to revive local agricultural productivity.
“Approximately 11,000 hectares of rice fields have suffered total failure. All of them will be restored, and the work will be carried out by the government. This is the responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture,” Amran said in a press release on Friday (December 12, 2025).
He emphasized that rehabilitating damaged agricultural land is a top priority to help farmers recover and maintain national food security. The government will also move swiftly to repair farmland severely affected by the disaster.
“We have recorded and reported all the affected areas. For coffee plantations in Aceh that were completely destroyed, we will carry out replanting. Everything will be replaced,” he stated.
“We will continue monitoring and providing assistance. God willing, we will resolve the issues in the agricultural sector.”
In addition to handling damaged farmland, Amran reported that national rice stock levels are currently very secure.
“As of December 11, our stock stands at 3.7 million tons. This is the highest ever recorded in Indonesia’s history, and all of it comes from domestic production,” he said.
He further explained that in previous years, the highest year-end rice stock typically only reached about 2 million tons. However, this year projections for the next 20 days show that stocks are expected to reach around 3.65–3.67 million tons.
“This is the highest level ever. So regarding rice supply, God willing, Indonesia is safe.”
Amran also dispatched another round of humanitarian aid for disaster-affected communities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. In this second phase, the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Food Agency sent 153 trucks carrying approximately Rp10 billion worth of aid.
“We are sending assistance to our brothers and sisters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. These supplies come from the Ministry of Agriculture’s humanitarian initiative, contributions from ministry personnel, and partner companies,” Amran said.
The aid shipment will depart via ship from Tanjung Priok Port. It includes ready-to-eat food and clothing for residents impacted by the floods.
The supplies include sausages, instant noodles, biscuits, snacks, sardines, soy sauce, salt, sugar, rice, mineral water, children’s clothing, men’s and women’s clothing, undergarments, dresses, sarongs, prayer garments, towels, blankets, prayer mats, foldable mattresses, and tarpaulins.
“This is a demonstration of our solidarity and collective spirit in supporting our brothers and sisters in Sumatra. The state is present, acting swiftly, and ensuring that all assistance reaches those in need,” he said.
In total, the Ministry of Agriculture has delivered 360 trucks of aid through its humanitarian program, including the initial deployment on Thursday (December 4, 2025). The government has also allocated both regular and non-regular funds to support disaster response in Sumatra.
“In addition to our humanitarian program, government assistance for regular funding amounts to Rp918 billion as instructed by President Prabowo. Non-regular funding requested by provincial governments adds Rp330 billion, bringing the total to approximately Rp1.249 trillion,” he explained.
To ensure smooth distribution, Amran assigned officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Food Agency to oversee the process in affected regions. These coordinators ensure that aid dispatched from Jakarta is delivered to BNPB posts and local impacted areas.
“We release the aid from our ministry, supervise it until departure from Tanjung Priok, and then our teams in the three provinces receive and escort the supplies all the way to local distribution points,” he said.
Amran reaffirmed that disaster response efforts will continue to be strengthened to ensure affected communities receive support and that recovery progresses steadily. He stressed that the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Food Agency, local governments, the military and police, BNPB, and partners will continue working together.
