The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the number of working-age population (PUK) in August 2025 reached 218.17 million people, an increase of 2.80 million compared to August 2024. The working-age population includes all individuals aged 15 years and above.
According to the Indonesian Labor Force Situation Report for August 2025, released on Thursday (November 6, 2025), the majority of the working-age population is classified as the labor force, totaling 154.00 million people, while the remaining 64.17 million people are categorized as non-labor force.
“The composition of the labor force in August 2025 consisted of 146.54 million employed persons and 7.46 million unemployed individuals. Compared with August 2024, the number of labor force participants and employed persons each increased by 1.89 million and 1.90 million people, respectively, while the number of unemployed decreased by around four thousand,“ the report stated.
Furthermore, the report detailed the distribution of employed persons based on their highest level of education completed, which serves as an indicator of the quality and productivity of the workforce.
“The distribution of employed individuals by educational attainment in August 2025 still follows a similar pattern to those observed in August 2023 and August 2024,” the report explained.
As of August 2025, the majority of the employed population had completed elementary school or lower, accounting for 34.75%. Meanwhile, those with Diploma IV, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degrees made up 10.84%, showing a steady upward trend since August 2023.
In addition, high school graduates accounted for 21.19%, junior high school graduates for 17.11%, vocational high school graduates for 13.89%, and Diploma I, II, and III graduates for 2.22% of the total employed population.
