Perum Bulog Sets a New Milestone in Strengthening National Food Security

As of May 18, 2025, Perum Bulog has achieved a historic milestone in enhancing Indonesia's food security. The Government Rice Reserve (CBP) stock has reached 3.8 million tons — the highest level in history. and just one step away from the strategic target of 4 million tons.

Novi Helmy Prasetya, President Director of Perum Bulog, stated that the entire stock was sourced from the absorption of domestically produced unhusked rice (gabah), without relying on imports. By early May 2025, Bulog had procured more than 2 million tons of rice equivalent from local farmers, through a purchase scheme based on the Government Purchase Price (HPP) of Rp6,500 per kilogram.

Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, expressed his appreciation for Bulog's proactive “jemput bola” strategy, which involves directly absorbing farmers’ harvests. He described the initiative as an effective policy for stabilizing unhusked rice prices at the farmer level while also safeguarding the national rice supply.

With this achievement, Indonesia is seen as drawing closer to its ambition of food self-sufficiency. The country’s dependence on rice imports is gradually decreasing, in line with the strengthening of its domestic food security foundation.
