Metaplanet Increases Bitcoin Holdings by IDR 1.8 Trillion, Strengthens Position in Asia
Japanese company Metaplanet announced the purchase of Bitcoin worth more than US$117 million, or approximately IDR 1.8 trillion, on June 2, 2025. With an additional purchase of around 1,000 BTC, Metaplanet’s total holdings now reach 8,888 BTC, reaffirming its position as one of the institutions with the largest Bitcoin accumulation in Asia.
Aggressive Expansion Through Treasury Operations Program
This purchase marks Metaplanet’s first acquisition in June and is part of an aggressive expansion strategy carried out since early 2024 through its Bitcoin Treasury Operations program.
Interest-Free Bond Financing Supports Bitcoin Acquisition
The Bitcoin purchase was funded through the issuance of two series of zero-coupon bonds to EVO FUND. On May 28, 2025, Metaplanet issued the 16th Series worth US$50 million, followed by the 17th Series of US$21 million on May 29, 2025. The proceeds from these bond issuances were fully allocated to increasing Bitcoin holdings.
Both bonds are scheduled to mature on November 27 and 28, 2025, with an early redemption option if Metaplanet raises additional funds.
Metaplanet’s Bitcoin Investment Shows Positive Returns
Besides focusing on accumulation, Metaplanet has also demonstrated solid investment performance. In an official report, the company recorded impressive Bitcoin returns throughout 2025.
From the beginning, Metaplanet declared its ambition to become the “Asian version of Strategy” by making Bitcoin the main pillar of its business strategy. This approach serves as a strong foundation for managing the company’s digital assets.
