Cryptocurrency adoption continues to show positive trends worldwide. The year 2024 closed with a significant milestone, as the number of digital asset owners reached a new record, reflecting a major shift in investment patterns and digital financial inclusion, both in developed and developing countries.

Latest Data: Rapid Growth in Global Crypto Owners

According to a report from Crypto.com published by Pintu News, the number of cryptocurrency owners globally increased from 583 million people in January 2024 to 659 million by the end of December 2024. This represents a 13% increase over the year, a trend expected to continue into 2025.

Meanwhile, Asia recorded the highest growth in crypto users worldwide, with 326.8 million people in 2024—an increase of over 21% compared to the previous year.

Crypto Owners' Demographics: Youth Dominates

The report from Crypto.com also revealed that individuals aged 24 to 35 make up the majority of cryptocurrency owners, accounting for about 34% of the total global users. This younger generation is known for its quick adaptation to new technologies and an increasing search for investment alternatives beyond the traditional financial system. Pintu News states, “For the younger generation, especially Gen Z and Millennials, crypto has become a way to build a more flexible portfolio, free from the constraints of conventional financial systems.”

While cryptocurrency adoption continues to grow, the digital asset world still faces several risks, such as high price volatility, the threat of hacking, and regulatory uncertainty. These remain significant challenges for the further expansion of crypto use.

Nevertheless, the rapid growth in the number of cryptocurrency owners reflects a major shift in the global financial system. With better regulatory support and broader blockchain technology integration, the number of cryptocurrency users is expected to surpass 1 billion people worldwide by the end of 2025.
